RE: Eternabond question: how wide?

Before I sealed my PUP roof's center seam, I contacted Eternabond directly via telephone before buying anything. The tech suggested that I get 2" on either side of the seam, but that 1" would hold satisfactorily (assuming the surfaces were prepped correctly).
When asked about durability, he said that the ten year warranty is extremely conservative. He said that they have customers who are scientists working in Antarctica, so they scaled back the warranty for extreme users like that. He went on to say that the Eternabond tape should last at least 25 years in the North American climate, even though the warrantee is only 10 years.
The tech said that if screws are to be run through the tape (as was in my case), the Eternabond adhesive would actually wick to the screw threads, effectively sealing the screw hole.
Lastly, the tech said that some people like to "dress" the edges of the Eternabond tape with caulk, but that it's not necessary.
I hope this helps. :)

RE: Mattress alternative for 2008 Starcraft RT

Our 1997 Jayco beds were extremely uncomfortable. I am a big guy, and my hands, hips, etc would sink right down to the plywood. I bought new foam that was the same thickness as the OEM foam (4"), only it's a lot more dense, and cut it to fit inside the OEM mattress cover. I like it a lot, but the DW says that now it's too firm. ;) Anyway, I don't have to deal with toppers, or air mattresses, etc. No additional work when popping-up or tearing down; I like that a lot. :B
I bought the foam here:
Foam Distributing
I used a full sheet (82" x 76") of the Lux HQ. But if you're a smaller person, like my DW, you may like the LUX regular better. Just use your OEM mattress as a pattern, and cut to fit.

RE: different manufacturers observations

I wouldn't count the Starcraft out, just because of one dealer's opinion. Search around on the board -- they have an excellent rep for quality. I currently own a 1997 Jayco. But when it comes time for me to upgrade, I will consider a Starcraft.

RE: Caulking seams

I used Eternabond tape on my roof seam. It's a little harder to work with than Duct Tape, especially the edges. But my roll must've been handled a little rough in shipping -- the gray stuff was squeeezing out along the edges and I couldn't even get the cellophane wrapper off cleanly. YMMV.
Overall, though I think it worked well.

If you are considering the purchase of large quantities of Reflectix (to make inserts for ALL your PUP windows), read this Thread first

RE: "Mommy I need to go potty NOW!"

I have a 4yo who is potty-trained, but likes to wait until the last-possible moment to go, and a 2yo who is about to start potty training. When we made our reservations to go camping this past weekend, we specified a site that was "as close to the bath house as possible".

what is the thing about the step to lock your door? are all pups like that?
I'm having trouble with that one also. Folding my step in has no effect on the door. :h
My steps aren't even attached to the PUP!!

RE: Is OxiClean safe for canvas tenting? INSIDE Stain Removal

It seems OxiClean is a great choice for carpets.
But what about canvas? Does it work? Will it attack the waterproofing?

Is OxiClean safe for canvas tenting? INSIDE Stain Removal

I have a 1997 Jayco 1207DD. There are mold and mildew stains on the canvas. Facing the outside, we use "Reliable" RV cleaner and degreaser, diluted with water. We wash the camper like washing a car. This method works OK, and does not remove the water-proofing layer.
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj131/soultraindart/Camping/sprayclean_160x187.jpg
Facing the inside, flushing with large amounts of water is not an option. Also, we do not want to weaken or damage the canvas. We tried gently scrubbing with a soft-bristle brush. The mold and mildew seems to be gone, and so is the smell, but there are significant stains left.
Can I use OxiClean? Or will that eat the material?
They have a new product out now, "Baby OxiClean". That may be milder?

RE: Whats best lube /? for popups rails

Per my Jayco manual, I use Silicone spray lubricant and lots of it. The overspray doesn't seem to harm anything. YMMV.

RE: Wax?

Zaino is a good product.
At my local 'Advance' Auto Parts Store, I've bought Meguire's NXT (Next Generation) wax, and was happy with the ease of use, gloss, and longevity.

Need help modifying PUP steps. NE ideas?

I have a 1997 Jayco 1207DD. The steps are not bolted to the underside of the frame. Instead, they are removable. The steps have two steel bars that get inserted into two holes in the frame, and then they just hang there. When you step on them, the holes in the frame tend to elongate and the frame twists a little -- that leads to the metal bars not aligning properly in the frame holes. Then the steps are not securely attached to the frame. To be kind, it is a poor design.
Below is a photo I found online that shows the style I am talking about (look to the right of the tire):
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj131/soultraindart/Camping/758b_1.jpg
I have seen steps that fold-up and get placed on the ground, but I do not want to buy those. I would prefer to modify the OEM steps.
The only thing I can think of is to drill the Metal bars and put alignment pins into them. Then drill the frame with holes that match the pins. This would prevent the steps from elongating the larger mounting holes any further.
I would prefer to have some sort of wingnut/knob on there to secure the steps to the frame, but there doesn't seem to be enough clearance for that.
Any other ideas?

RE: Cleaning canvas on pop up

Welcome to the forum, USAFAMOM!
Our used Pop-Up stank pretty bad when we bought it. My wife used Fabreeze on the interior fabrics, and it stayed remarkably fresh all season.
For the canvas, there were some black stains (probably mold). We used a cleaner that was available at our local RV shop, called "Reliable". We diluted it and used a soft brush-on-a-pole, and got the canvas fairly clean without loosing the waterproofing qualities.

RE: Lost dust cap...should I re-pack bearings?

Wow! These responses are all over the map, from one extreme to the other.
If it were me, I would take the middle ground like DBBLS and focus on just the outer bearing and race.
